EN 47 (51CrV4) is a high-strength chromium-vanadium spring steel; its European equivalent is 51CrV4 to EN 10089. We supply it in the soft-annealed condition, which machines and forms easily before the finished part is hardened and tempered. The vanadium addition refines grain size and improves fatigue resistance and temper stability, giving excellent elasticity and load-bearing capacity. It is the standard choice for highly stressed springs and components that must flex repeatedly without taking a permanent set.
At Sai International we keep annealed EN 47 spring steel in ready stock at our Darukhana godown in Mumbai — spring steel round bar (Ø16–205 mm), square bar (16×16 to 55×55 mm) and flat bar (28×36, 36×45 and 45×55 mm). It is widely used for leaf springs, coil springs, torsion bars and spring clips.

The main difference from 51CrV4 to EN 10089 is manganese (0.50–0.80% against 0.70–1.10%) and a slightly wider chromium range. If your drawing calls for the strict standard, mention it in your enquiry. Every dispatch comes with the mill test certificate for its heat.
